Four dream places to picnic in the Landes

Published on 08/11/2022

Summer is the season for picnics par excellence. By the ocean, near a lake or in the forest, here are our favourite spots to discover in the Landes. The choice is yours!

THE POINTE DES VERGNES PARK IN SOUSTONS

Would you like to have a picnic with the squirrels? Head for the Pointe des Vergnes, on the edge of the Soustons lake. Just a stone's throw from the town centre, but in a calm Olympian setting, this green and watery spot is a perfect place to put down your blanket and have lunch on the grass with your family or your loved ones. The large alders and Louisiana cypresses provide pleasant shade when the temperature rises above 30 degrees. The setting is splendid, and little red squirrels, of which there are many here, will even come to say hello. In the summer, the arboretum offers many fun activities on the theme of flora and fauna. We love it!

THE MARINE LAKE OF PORT D'ALBRET

Between Vieux-Boucau and Soustons-Plage, just behind the ocean, the marine lake of Port d'Albret offers a huge space dedicated to relaxation: sandy beach for swimming, water activities, boat or pedal boat rides, bike rides around the lake... It is an ideal picnic spot for families. You can spend a whole day here and never get bored. There are picnic tables in the shade of the pines, as well as several shops and restaurants, if you feel like an improved picnic.

THE FOREST OF MOLIETS

Often, when you pack a picnic, it's for a day of hiking or sightseeing. Just a stone's throw from the mouth of the Huchet stream, one of the most beautiful sites in the region, set off to discover the Prade stream and swing circuit (14 km), in the Moliets-et-Maâ commune. In the heart of the Landes forest, this pretty walk under the foliage takes you to the edge of the lake and the beaches of Moliets, along the stream and the Prade lake. Halfway along the route, on the Embouchure path, a picnic area has been set up for lunch in the shade of the cork oaks and pines. A delicious moment in an enchanting setting!

THE BEACH OF LA LETTE BLANCHE IN VIELLE-SAINT-GIRONS

Want to go "beaching" with your picnic basket? We take you to the Lette Blanche beach in Vielle-Saint-Girons, one of the wildest in the Landes. A great escape in a few minutes! The setting is perfect for playing Robinson Crusoe: sand as far as the eye can see, a coastline untouched by construction, an air of the end of the world. It's the perfect spot to organise an unforgettable picnic! As long as you don't forget your cooler, sandwiches and food, because there is absolutely nothing to eat on site.
