Sablères beach, the wild beach of Vieux-Boucau

The kilometre-long Sablères beach at Vieux-Boucau is one of the most beautiful beaches on the Landes coast. One large dune to cross, and the change of scenery is immediate.

This is the most northerly beach in Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains, following on from the Plage Sud in Messanges. Slightly away from the town centre, this is the wildest beach in the Landes resort. To get there, you have to cross a corridor of dunes, some up to eight metres high.

A word of advice: don't forget your children's picnics and snacks, as there are no bars or restaurants on the beach. The nearest shops are 500 metres from the beach, in the centre of Vieux Boucau.

A wild, family-friendly beach

This beautiful sandy beach is particularly popular with families. Whether it's for sunbathing, swimming or surfing, Plage des Sablères is appreciated for its wild, calm and family-friendly atmosphere.

At the entrance to the beach, a first-aid post ensures the safety of young and old alike. A large area is reserved for swimming, with lifeguards on duty every day during the summer. Beware, the beach is already packed at the end of the morning. The area is much quieter at the end of the day and the sunsets are fabulous.

• Swimming is supervised from mid-June to the end of August, from 11am to 7pm.
• Please note that dogs are not allowed on the beach (except assistance dogs).

• Access to Plage Nord des Sablères: Avenue des Dunes, 40480 Vieux-Boucau.
• Free parking 200 metres from the beach. Please note that it is not always easy to find a parking space.
• From Le Vieux Port campsite, it's less than 10 minutes by bike along the cycle path. Cycle parking on site.

The little tourist train to the beach

During the two summer months, a little blue and white train runs between the town and the beaches of Vieux Boucau. It also serves the various tourist attractions in the seaside town of Vieux Boucau: the market, the fronton, the arenas and the car parks.

The pleasures of the beach in complete safety

These tips will help you to enjoy swimming safely on the beaches of the Landes:

• Swim between the yellow and red flags when the beaches are supervised. Lifeguards can intervene quickly if necessary and provide assistance in an emergency.
• Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun before swimming. Avoid heavy meals and alcohol before swimming.
• Wet your neck, torso and back before gradually entering the water.
• Don't overestimate your strength: if you're not an experienced swimmer, don't go too far from the shore.
