What to do when camping in the rain
You'd planned a day's visit to the Landes region, but now the rain has thwarted your plans? Nothing's lost! Here are 7 things to do at the campsite when it's raining.
1. Go to the (sheltered!) swimming pool
Can't wait to try out your new swimming costume, but the weather's not on your side? Don't let the rain dampen your desire to swim! At the 5-star Le Vieux Port campsite, you can go swimming whatever the weather! Head for the heated sheltered pool! The sheltered pool remains at 25 degrees from the opening to the closing of the campsite! Everyone's swimming in bliss!
2. Pamper yourself at the spa
Holidays are sacred. There's no question of depriving yourself of just one day! If it's raining, you can take refuge in one of the campsite's wellness areas. On the programme: spa, oriental hammam, sauna, jacuzzi, relaxing massages, beauty treatments... Perfect for keeping your spirits high!
3. Dust off your board games
If you really don't feel like getting out of your mobile home, now's the time to bring out the board games. Timeless favourites include Scrabble, good old Monopoly, Power 4 and Cluedo. If you're afraid of running out of space in your suitcase, opt for a card game that's easy to slip into your luggage, such as UNO, Skip-Bo or Dobble. These are nomadic card games that children love, so take them with you wherever you go on holiday!
4. Keep the kids busy with coloured pencils
When it comes to keeping little ones occupied on a rainy day, colouring is THE solution! A few coloured pencils and a colouring book, and that's it! And if you've forgotten to bring a colouring book, you can improvise a drawing competition. See who can make the most beautiful sun! There you have it, your children are nice and concentrated. You can almost hear the rain falling!
5. Preparing for the next day's visits
When the weather's not cooperating, it's time to plan the next day's visits. For those who like a bit of reading, check out the ideas for walks, outings and activities in the Landes on our tourism blog. There's plenty to keep you busy while you wait for the sun to come out, so you can travel a little without getting wet!
6. Write a postcard to grandma and grandpa
When the weather isn't really on your side, you can take the opportunity to write a postcard to grandma and grandpa, uncle, auntie, godfather, godmother or your office colleagues (of course, you can tell them that the weather is always fine in the Landes!) Le Vieux Port campsite has put together a selection of pretty holiday postcards, so much better than a simple text message or email!
7. Give yourself (finally) a good reason to play a video game
How do you keep teenagers occupied when it's raining? Head for the arcade. We've designed this leisure space as a place to retreat and have fun around video game culture, just like in the 90s. Teenagers will be happy to meet up with their friends. There are arcade terminals, video games of all kinds, retro consoles, a pool table, air hockey, pinball machine and table football, as well as a lounge for chilling out during the day. (Big) teenagers are also welcome!
