5 good reasons to go to the marine lake of Port d'Albret

How about spending a sunny day at the Port d'Albret marine lake? If you are still hesitating, here are 5 good reasons to discover this beautiful lake in the Landes region, located between Soustons and Vieux-Boucau, only 10 minutes by bike from the campsite Le Vieux Port.

SWIMMING WITH THE CHILDREN WITHOUT THE (BIG) WAVES

The beach of the marine lake is located on the edge of the Landes forest, just a short distance from the ocean and is very popular with families. The setting of the lake is heavenly, ideal for swimming and relaxing. The beach slopes gently, there are no waves and the water is warmer than the ocean, on average 3 to 4 degrees warmer! This means that children can swim safely, splash around and make beautiful sandcastles while parents relax in the shade of the pine trees.

This pretty lake beach (plage de la Sauvagine) is located south-west of the Lac Marin in Soustons. To reach it from the town of Soustons, you just have to take the departmental road 652, then to turn on the Avenue de la Pêtre (shaded car park nearby).

TO INDULGE IN THE JOYS OF WATER SPORTS

With a surface area of 60 hectares, the Port d'Albret lake offers an ideal playground for a wide range of water sports activities away from the hustle and bustle of the ocean beaches.

Take advantage of your camping holiday near the Port d'Albret lake to introduce your children to sailing. The lake is located 200 metres from the ocean. You can therefore enjoy the wind from the open sea on a calm, enclosed stretch of water, without waves or currents. Sailing clubs offer training courses, discovery sessions, private lessons and equipment hire: catamaran, stand-up paddle, windsurfing board, canoe, rowing boat... All you have to do is choose your boat to have fun on the water. The small wild island in the middle of the lake is perfect for playing Robinson!

PEDAL ON LAND AS ON WATER

Fun and accessible for young and old, the pedal boat is the way to discover the marine lake at your own pace and to navigate without technical knowledge. You can even hire a pedalo with a built-in slide! Children love it! The pedal boat is also a romantic ride for two, the pleasure of taking your time and strolling along the water.

Pedal boats, but also bike rides! A cycle track leads around the lake (4 km). The site is classified as Natura 2000 and some areas are still wild and preserved, offering little corners of nature with an unexplored air to those who wish to get off the beaten track.

BECOME CAPTAIN OF YOUR OWN MINIATURE BOAT

To explore the lake in a different way and go around the island of Port d'Albert, get on board a small electric boat without a licence. A nautical experience for the whole family. From 11 years old, children can pilot their own boat! Which one will you choose? The frigate, the ferry boat, the trawler or the fire boat? Go to the Port Miniature, on the edge of the marine lake (Avenue de la Pêtre, Soustons-Plage).

ENJOY THE TERRACES AND THE SUMMER ATMOSPHERE AT THE EDGE OF THE LAKE

In Soustons-Plage or in Vieux-Boucau, you will find many shops, bars and restaurants with a view on the lake. The opportunity to put your feet under the table and treat yourself, to refresh yourself with a good ice cream after swimming, or to have a drink on the terrace to enjoy the sunset. Not to be missed: the night market of Soustons-Plage which takes place on Thursday evening, in July and August, on the Place du Lac Marin.
