A breath of fresh air: parks and gardens where you can recharge your batteries

Published on 09/11/2022

In the Landes, the parks and gardens will soon reopen their doors to the public, and with them, the possibility of (finally) reconnecting with nature...

At a time when the need to get some fresh air is felt more than ever, parks and gardens offer a calm and green setting to give free rein to our desire to stroll and escape. Here is a small selection of places not to be missed to get some fresh air, enjoy nature and go green in the Landes.

The Gardens of Humanity in Saint-Vincent-de-Tyrosse

Located in Saint-Vincent-de-Tyrosse, 30 minutes from the Vieux Port campsite, the Jardins de l'Human ité offer you the chance to discover its themed gardens, through various fun, unusual and sensory discovery trails combining historical, cultural, botanical, ethnobotanical and therapeutic aspects. There is a rose garden, a permaculture vegetable garden, old varieties of fruit and vegetables, as well as an educational mini-farm. Everything to stroll around, smell and touch!

The Sarrat Park in Dax

Labelled a "remarkable garden" and listed in the inventory of historical monuments, the Sarrat Park is a beautiful landscaped park of 3.5 hectares which includes a sumptuous French garden, a bamboo grove, an orchard, a fishpond with koi carp, as well as a vegetable garden where forgotten or special vegetables grow. The arboretum houses over 800 trees of 27 different species: Cappadocian maple, Chinese mahogany, poison ivy, Wollemi pine... Here you can travel from one continent to another, from one country to another. Escape guaranteed!

The Jardin Buissonnier in Saint-Martin-De-Seignanx

Between the hillside forest and the banks of theAdour, in the heart of a 2.5 hectare nature reserve in the south of the Landes, discover an initiation course where you can discover flowers and plants, play naturalist, discover the secrets of dragonflies and amphibians, smell the perfume of aromatic plants, or simply walk along the footpaths which cross the forest. Let your five senses do the talking!

The Arboretum of the Domaine de Moré in Morcenx

Nestled in Morcenx, between Dax and Mont-de-Marsan, the Moré Arboretum is a place dedicated to the conservation of Aquitaine's tree heritage. In an area of 5 ha, the arboretum gathers more than 126 species of coniferous and deciduous trees, as well as an orchard planted with old varieties of fruit trees and shrubs from Aquitaine. Throughout the walk, explanatory panels describe the plant species encountered (maritime pine, Gingko Biloba, Robinier, Merisier, Liquidambar...). And for children, there is a play area and a tree maze in a forest setting. The Moré estate also has a castle, a pond with pontoons reserved for fishermen and nice spots for picnics.

The park of Château de Marrast in Bordères-et-Lamensans

Halfway between Mont-de-Marsan and Aire-sur-l'Adour, the park of the château de Marrast - labelled as a remarkable garden - is distinguished by its cultural, aesthetic, historical and botanical interest. It is a pleasure to stroll from groves to water basins, from parterres to boxwood embroidery and rigorously ordered beds of roses and rhododendrons, punctuated here and there by Florence cypresses, Japanese maples and other cloud-trimmed pittosporums. The French garden is in some ways reminiscent of the simplicity of English gardens. As for the château, a country house in the Louis XVI style, it was built in 1789 on the site of a former noble house. A visit that will enchant lovers of beautiful nature and old stones!
