Anyone can try surfing during the holidays, all you need is the desire, a few lessons and a bit of practice. In Les Landes, surfing is a real institution. And contrary to popular belief, you don't need to be a great athlete with blonde hair to surf the Landes waves. So if you have always secretly dreamed of taking up surfing, your stay at Camping Le Vieux Port is the perfect opportunity!

Of course you won't become a surfing champion in a snap of the fingers. You will need to take a few lessons to learn the basic techniques. With our partner RESASOL, you can take your first lessons on the beautiful beach of Messanges Sud. There are even family packages for parents who would like to introduce their children or vice versa! After 5 to 6 hours of training and with the safety rules well in mind, you will be able to stand up on your board, evolve independently and catch your first waves.

The best surf spots on the south coast of the Landes

Without going far from the campsite, you will enjoy surfing at Vieux-Boucau and Moliets to progress at your own pace. Between two sessions, nothing will prevent you from going to see what's going on in the other essential spots of the Landes considered as the best beach breaks (sand waves) in France. Of course, you won't be able to compete with the waves of Capbreton, Seignosse and Hossegor, but you will enjoy watching the most experienced surfers at work! It's no coincidence that Hossegor and Seignosse host the Quiksilver Pro France, a key stage in the World Surfing Championships which take place every year in October.

Finally, some basic rules for beginners

• Choose waves adapted to your level as a beginner. Waves of less than 1 metre are fine!
• Respect the locals as well as the priorities: the surfer furthest inside the break has priority!
• Avoid interfering with a surfer who is already on a wave by going around the area where the waves are breaking if possible.
• Don't swim against the current, as this will exhaust you, but let yourself drift to the beach later.
