Combining camping and rafting, nothing could be easier!

What if you took advantage of your camping holiday near the Basque Country to introduce your whole family to the joys of rafting? Too dangerous, you might ask? Not at all.

Many people confuse rafting with canyoning. Rafting consists of descending torrents and rivers with high water flows on an unsinkable inflatable boat in a team of 4 to 8 people, whereas canyoning is done directly on foot or by swimming. As a result, rafting is considered the most accessible whitewater sport.

Rafting is possible from the age of 6. All you need is to be able to swim and feel comfortable in the water. As for equipment: a helmet, a neoprene suit, a high flotation jacket, a paddle and you are ready for the adventure!

To do this, head for Bidarray, between Biarritz and Saint-Jean-Pied-de Port in the Basque Country, an hour and 20 minutes by car from the campsite. This small village on the river is a Mecca for rafting in the Basque Country. People come here from the Landes region and even further afield to challenge nature and race down the torrents at speed. A rafting trip in the heart of the wild landscapes of the Basque Country

The Nive, and especially the course located between Ossès and Bidarray, will be your playground and discovery in the heart of the largest European reserve of raptors.

Based in Biddaray, the Uhina Rafting Centre (the wave in Basque), the first leisure and activity centre in France to be certified NF Environnement, welcomes you in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere to enjoy a wonderful rafting experience in the Basque Country. After a theoretical briefing on water movements, rapids and currents, you are ready to go on a rafting trip with an instructor or in semi-autonomy. Duration of the adventure: about 2h30.

The course is divided into several stages adapted to families with young children: the wizarding world and Harry Potter's potion, the 8 magical plants, the mysterious cave or the Druids' potion...

In the company of a qualified white water guide who directs the manoeuvres, you will alternate between adrenalin-pumping rapids and more contemplative sections in total immersion with nature. Between two passages, you will have all the leisure to enjoy the landscapes, to observe the birds, the trees and the flowers which surround you. Your guide knows all the secrets and mysteries, which adds an extra attraction to the activity.
